Material Matters

As craftspeople, we know that material matters.

We have experience in working with a broad range of materials in the furniture making industry, and whichever material or technique you are looking to use for your project we can help ascertain the best laser setting for your needs.

  • Veneer Thickness: 0.3mm, 0.4mm, 0.6mm, 0.8mm

    Constructional Veneer: 0.9mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm

    For additional thicknesses please enquire. Our machine can cut thicknesses up to 20mm depending on the type of wood.

    Sizes: Any size up to 1000mm x 600mm

    You can supply your own veneer, or choose from our onsite stock. We can also source veneer for your project from our local supplier.

  • Thickness: 0.8mm, 1.5mm, 3mm, 4mm and 6mm

    Sizes: Any size up to 1000m x 600mm

    Material: If supplying your own ply, it must be interior grade plywood using MR glue. Other plywoods tend to use a glue not compatible with laser cutting.

  • Thickness: 3mm and 5mm

    Sizes: Up to 100mm x 600mm

    Material: We can supply many types of wood from our onsite stocks, or we can order in and dimension wood for you. Alternatively you can supply your own wood.

  • Thickness: 3mm, 6mm and 9mm

    Sizes: Any size up to 1000mm x 600mm

    Material: We can supply and dimension at your request. Veneered MDF sheets are also available.

  • Thickness: Any GSM

    Sizes: Any size up to 1000mm x 600mm

    Materials: You can supply your own, or we can order paper/card in at your request.

  • Sizes: Any size up to 1000mm x 600mm

    Materials: Anodised Aluminium, Brass, Copper, Precious metals, Stainless Steel, Steel Titanium.

    Materials: Stone, ceramics, porcelain, marble and slate.

  • Sizes: Any size up to 1000mm x 600mm

    Results can vary depending on type of glass

  • Thickness: Various

    Materials: Natural fibres (e.g cotton, linen) Felt (synthetic, wool), Microfibre, denim, suede and Alcantara.

  • Thickness:

    Coloured: 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm

    Clear: 2 - 12mm

    Sizes: Any size up to 1000mm x 600mm

  • Thickness: Various

    Materials: Most plastics.

    We cannot cut PVC, PVB, PTFE/Teflon, Beryllias, PVC based synthetic leather or inferior leather (Chrome VI) or materials containing halogens as these materials contain dangerous substances that are released during processing in the form of gases and dust.

    We may also not be able to cut materials specified as flame retardant. This property is achieved through bromine, which is then released during processing.

Net Zero and Somerset Growth Accelerator Fund

Our Trotec Laser machine is part funded a grant from the Somerset Growth Accelerator Fund - awarded by Somerset County Council.

The Accelerator Scheme aims to help SME’s like Williams and Cleal enhance and grow their business going forwards, boost prospects within Somerset’s economy and contribute toward the county’s effort to become carbon neutral by 2030.

With the help of SWMAS’s Make it Net Zero Programme, we are taking positive steps towards identifying and reducing our carbon footprint.

We are working with net zero specialists to:

  • Capture our current carbon footprint.

  • Identify realistic and long-term goals to achieving a reduction in carbon and emissions.

  • Create a bespoke action plan and timeline to progress towards net zero goals.
